Epigenetics

One of my favorite podcasts, Stuff You Should Know, covered a very interesting topic this week: Epigenetics.

Did you know that stuff that your grandparents did can effect your development? Apparently, your body can adjust to environmental changes. Those tagged changes may be passed down through your descendants, even though the egg and sperm are supposed to be wiped clean of them. 

How interesting (and scary) is it that things such as abuse can pass through to the fetus. So apparently you are what you eat, drink, and smoke. Beware because what you do can have ramifications well into future generations.

With that thought, I'm thinking about becoming a vegetarian.... You know, just in case.

True Blood Season 1 and Season 2

True Blood, based on the Southern Vampire Mystery/Sookie Stackhouse novels, fulfills my love for campy vampire joy. As many people have noted, True Blood is an anti-Twilight. Sex abounds, but it's great because of the characters.

With actors like Anna Paquin and Nelsan Ellis, the series is just so fun to watch. The series looks to be following the trajectory of one book per season. The 10th novel was just released. I'm not sure if the tv series will get as high as that, but I enjoyed how the characters have grown and changed with each book.

The show balances horror, humor, and camp in one of the most entertaining series around. Twitter lights up with #trublood posts as soon as an episode stars airing. I really can't help but enjoy the fun.

The third series will introduce new characters, expanding the shifters (werewolves, etc.). And of course, the delicious Alexander Skarsgård exudes hot vampire sexiness as Eric. He's my favorite part of the series.

It's Spring! Time for Babies!

Two of my really good friends just had kids in the past two months. I'm so happy for them. Both of the kids are girls and both are super adorable!

And once the babies get plump enough, I can bite them!

Wait, what?

I have a confession. I love to kind of gum on babies. Their fat, tender arms are perfectly tender.

Newborn babies are great to hold, but it's the 3 month plus time that babies are great to nibble on.

Congratulations, my friends. You and your spouses have done good.
