Website Redesign

Posted in

It's a new, new, new, new, new, new(?) web site again. Hanabatake.com has been updated. I've moved to a new CMS.

I've also relaunched JenSeki.com with Drupal.

It took me a while to figure it out, but I think I'm starting to understand what I need to do to get all of this up and running.

The links on most of my website are probably out of date. I mean, some of them are from over 10 years ago! So I'm starting fresh, so to speak.

I'll be slowly moving some of my old posts back starting with my research papers.

Disgaea 3 Owns Me (Most of the Time)

Disgaea 3 - Mao & Beryl

I have to confess... One of the reasons it took so long to get this back up was because I've been a bit distracted. I've been playing Disgaea. Now, I happen to own Disgaea 1 and 2, but I have not finished either one of the games.

Why?

Well, partly because the game system really is built so you can take as long as you want before you finish it. And mostly because I got a PS3. Now, my PlayStation 3 is an 80 GB one, so it doesn't have backwards compatibility with the PS2. I can dust off my PSX games, though.

But the PS3 has spoiled me. It plays lovely Bluray discs and makes the TV downstairs present a most beautiful picture. So I haven't gone back. Well, I do go back. Mostly when people are watching something silly downstairs on the big tv.

But usually, I go read if that's the case.

I'm rambling.... It's pretty late for me, so pardon my fits & starts...

Disgaea 3 centers around Mao. He's the son of the evil Overlord who loooveesss video games. And now he's out for revenge on his evil Overlord-daddy. The game is full of puns, puzzles, and fun. Honestly, the graphics aren't an improvement on the PS2's, but there are some fun game functions like Duel Toss and new geo-things. It doesn't have that irritating warrent thing that took soooo freaking long in Disgaea 2.

And of course, Disgaea features the cutest of character designs.

I told my coworker that I stopped playing Oblivion after the first half-hour.

Because.

Rats.

Ate.

Me.

I'm sure that there are a lot of people who love those types of games. I'm a Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest kind of girl. I can't stand rats. And Disgaea makes everything cute. Even Zombies.

Fanfiction

In my downtime, when I'm not working, watching Doctor Who, reading books, or playing video games, I sometimes have the urge to write. If characters intrigue me or I get a bit obsessed about a show or story, then I whip out my laptop and start to type away. Most of these stories were written while I was in college, but the Doctor Who ones are a new obsession. David Tennant, you know....

You can read my stories in the following fanfiction repositoires:

I will also post any stories here (and update my archive) as soon as I have a chance.

About Me

Who am I? Well, my name is Ardith and I live where it's very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Well, hot and cold to the eyes of someone who grew up in sunny San Diego.

My resume is available, if you're curious

Just north of San Diego and East of the OC. After much moving due to the nature of being a Navy Brat, my parents settled in San Diego for some quality growing time for the kids.

It was lovely as I grew up with close cousins and molded by the fire of grandparents and lack of funds. That just meant more imagination time! One of my favorite games was pretending the closet was a rocket ship or hanging upside-down on the staircase. Oh! And climing the great plum tree in the backyard with my cousins.

Then I ran away to UCLA where I proceeded to learn (kinda) how to live on my own. I now live and work in Los Angeles in a multi-media (does 2 count?) company. I work with two of my favorite things: anime & manga. Thanks for coming to my page. Est. 1995. (Getting old, yo!)

Yes, since the dark ages of the internet. My friend (Let's call him Wuken) taught me how to use GEOCITES (um, the page is still up...) and the power of hotlinking. Of course, now I frown upon the practice and shake my fist at those damn MYSPACE kids. So here is to a decade of webbiness. Sorry if some of my pages read like a 18-year-old wrote it. I betcha some of them ARE from that time period.

Favorites

The Fringe

I didn't catch the preview for The Fringe that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con. I was probably being overwhelmed by the crowds and the people invading my personal space.

I'm kinda glad I did though. When I finally sat down at home and caught it, I could concentrate on the fun.

Site Content

Unfortunately, I haven't had time to bring much of my orginal content over to my new site. I'm afraid I've been busy with work and stuff. Sorry, y'all.

I noticed a few people have tried to access some of those pages. I'm planning on moving my posts and stuff over as well as the rest of my research papers. I have to do some reformatting as the HTML that I originally uploaded was all Microsoft and kinda messy.

Watch them. Now! Pushing Daisies & How I Met Your Mother

The beautifully surreal Pushing Daisies is coming back for a second season and I'm very, very, very excited. The characters are wacky, charming, and utterly... nice. Sure, Ned's power centers around death and life, but with the Emmy winning show is jam packed with fun. Lee Pace and Anna Friel are one of my favorite tv couples. She's dead; he brings the dead to life. Hilarity ensues.

Promo for Season 2

Jury Duty....Well, Not Quite.

Posted in
As exciting as this blog post is probably not going to be, I'm typing it for the world anyway.

I received a letter a few weeks ago letting me know I had jury duty this week. On Sunday night, I dutifully called and was told not to come in.

Since Monday was soooo busy at work, I forgot to check into the automated system to see if I had jury duty today. When I woke up this morning at 7:45, I called and found out I needed to be there by 8am to fulfill my civic duty.

After 20 minutes of scrambling, showering, and barely restrained panic, I left the house.
