This past week, Utada Hikaru has released her newest English album. This Is The One is an imporovement on her last English release (Exodus). My favorite tracks are Me Muero (the beat is just catchy!) and Apple And Cinnamon.
Utada Hikaru has been a fixture in the Japanese pop music scene for years, but has not quite been able to penetrate the US market. I loved her Japanese debut, First Love, and have been following her releases ever since.
Video game fans may know her from the theme song to Kingdom Hearts (Simple & Clean). Her single, This is Love, was also featured Freedom, the first anime ever to be released in HD.
This Is The One is available on iTunes as well as on Amazon.com.
I recently bought Quicken on eBay by a seller with over 300 positive. That’s right, user moe.always had over 300 positive feedback (please note that the feedback is now behind eBay’s “Private feedback” cloak).
When I got the package this morning, I noticed that the print was…a little off. The “Seal” was a clear sticker.
Let’s go back to the fact that I worked with anime and manga for almost a freaking decade. I can spot a boot when I see one. To confirm, I went to Intuit’s website to look up information about how they mark their items as authentic. Hologram around the dics’s inner ring? Nope. Bootleg? Confirmed!
The user claimed he has been using a drop-ship person to send out his stuff. In fact, to cover his butt, he attaches a note to the shipment. *laugh* It’s like a printed out half page note that he includes IN the shipment! You know, so I know he didn’t really do it. Some one else did! It’s not HIS fault!
I, of course, asked for my money back (via Paypal), reported the user to both eBay and Intuit and left him negative feedback. I think perhaps that some buyers do not look past the surface. They don’t really know what to look for and may have accepted their items at face value.
But seriously, if it looks off, it probably is.
And if I wanted to cheat a company out of paying fees for licenses, I would have done it through cheaper (read: free) ways. That’s the way the internet works. If I wanted it free, I could probably find it.
But I want to make sure that the company who produces it gets paid. If I paid a bootlegger, not only would the producers NOT get paid, but some jerk who DIDN’T do the work is getting paid and cheating two groups.
I’ve been a member since the late 90′s. Usually eBay powersellers are people who are resellers and small stores who want to make some extra money by using the auction system to sell their goods at a discount. That’s a fine system. I’ve bought lots of things from eBay — from books and furinture to used CD’s and flat irons. They’ve all worked out fine.
What pisses me off is the fact that this person is trying to hide the fact that he’s gotten caught as a bootlegger behind a PRIVATE FEEDBACK screen and passes the buck for his deed by saying he’s using a drop shipper.
I only hope that my reports to both eBay and Intuit get taken notice of. If they want the packaging so they can go all CSI on it, I’ll be glad to send it to them in the mail.
*sigh* I should go calm down. It’s just that this whole cheating-people-on-eBay thing really pisses me off. Especially since so many people probably were ignorant of the cheat.
I’m afraid this post is going to be a boring one. Please skip it, if you don’t really care about taxes. I totally understand. It’s just what’s on my mind at the moment. *laugh*
I’m working on 2008 taxes. The truth is, I usually spend a few weeks on them since I keep thinking, Did I forget something?
I really hate that feeling of uncertainty.
Of course I use TurboTax, so that helps guide me through the process.
This year, I am getting Quicken so my 2009 taxes will be that much easier to process. Did I mention that I try to organize my parents’ finances?
I think money makes a lot of people nervous, including me. With the economy so crapola, I’m just trying to make sure that everything is flowing smoothly.
I try to organize expenses by categories and my goal is to make it as simple as possible to track everything.
I have to admit I’m in a strange mood tonight. Maybe it was watching Mama Mia for the 4th time…. I suddenly had a strong urge to listen to Macross 7 music.
Macross was brought to the US in the 80′s as Robotech. Watching that series as a child imprinted me with a strong love for Japanese Anime.
Once I got to college, I joined the UCLA Anime Club and was eventually introduced to Macross 7, a series that centered around a ROCK BAND! They were called FIRE BOMBER! It was cheesy as all get out and one of the main characters was a 14-year-old with pale pink hair, but I totally enjoyed it.
One of the main reasons that it was so enjoyable was the music. Actually… the music was the main reason. The rest of the series was a bit silly. They sang. While piloting. Seriously. And it was awesome.
Sure, other Macross series feature the marvelous Yoko Kano writing the music. She’s classy! There is still something crack-a-licious about the music of Macross 7. Maybe you had to (fast-forward) through it in the late 90′s like I did, but I think it’s arresting.
Macross 7 rocked power ballads, pop, and straight rock songs. The creators had a whole shadow band who sang all the music, leaving voice acting to the voice actors and singing to, well, singers.
It totally worked. Well, music-wise. Sure, Basara kept yelling, "Listen to my song!" every episode… And sure, the main female character was only 14. But Mylene is the freakin’ seventh daughter of Maximilian Jenius and Milia Fallyna Jenius! And I did enjoy fast-forwarding through the tapes in college. Hard subs and VHS tapes made it so much easier to watch anime without having to…watch it. Anyway, youtube has vids!

I took advantage of the Circut City closeout to get a new computer. I’d been debating for the last few months about purchasing a MAC and even considered a netbook, but after much debate, I picked up this giant laptop.
I say giant because the thing is 17 inches and a little over 7 1/2 lbs. Huge compared to the wee netbooks that I’ve looking at.
Now I’m trying to transfer my mac files over into my laptop.
My friend Erika has declared that I’m a traitor to those who love MAC. Of course, I still have my iPhone and Mac Mini.
Anyways, now I have to go do taxes and get some extra work done. Not having a laptop really has been a pain in the butt.
