Donna Noble – Best Companion EVA!

by ardith

Doctor Who series 4 is drawing to a close soon. My reactions to this series? Donna Noble is one of my favorite companions. I still love Rose. And how hot is David Tennant? Freaking. Hot.

I enjoyed all of the stories this year so far. I cannot wait until Rose comes back because it seems like it’s going to be uber exciting. Everyone is coming back for the last few episodes.

But back to Donna…. Catherine Tate has a great range and her Donna is a great foil to the Doctor. They are really having fun AND she also is able to reach the Doctor on levels that even Rose and Martha weren’t able to. Probably cuz she’s older and isn’t out to found out how many other body parts the Doctor has more than one of. (ew!)

Recovery

by ardith

Happy days, y’all. My mother came home from the hospital earlier this week. She’s still doesn’t have her appetite back yet, but she’s much better. It will be some time till she’s fully recovered, but she’ll get there!

We’re all super glad. My brother and sisters are coming over this Sunday for a celebratory bbq.

Family Emergency

by ardith

This blog is dedicated to mostly my random thoughts and obsessions. I don’t go on and on about my private thoughts and feelings. I don’t talk about God, my spirituality, or anything like that. Hanabatake isn’t here to preach. If you are so inclined to explore that part of yourself, you should. I won’t tell you to.

That being said, on Thursday night, I had a major family emergency and one of my loved ones has been in the hospital for the past few days. Times like these, I realize how glad I am that I have such a great family.

I feel like the events that unfolded on Thursday night were meant to be. And God guided me to make the right decisions. I’m lucky. I’m blessed. And my family is still whole. Death was so near, but my mother has more to do here on earth, so He had her stay on.

I’m sitting in Sharp Memorial Hospital now. It’s 11 pm. They moved my mother from Rancho Springs Medical Center down here since because of insurance. Though it’s farther for my father, brother, middle sister, and me, the core of my mother’s family are centered here and this is a great hospital. My youngest sister still lives down here, too. We all lobbied hard to move her here. (Plus, hey! internet access!!)

Anyway, the adrenaline and junk food is fading in my system as my mother is getting stronger. I’m just happy to hear her breathe. The hospital murmurs in the evening. The nurse staff doesn’t rest.

I spent the last couple of days trying to just stay calm and keep everything together, but now that we’re on the other side, I can’t seem to stop crying. It’s just a reaction, I know. The heightened emotions and the stress have taken their toll. But I’m trying to cry as silently as I can so she doesn’t wake up. She needs the rest. I don’t want to worry her.

She’s going to get better. Thank God.

Firefox 3, Drupal, iPhone, and Other Shiny Things

by ardith

Well, this isn’t really about accessories — more like enhancements to the internet experience.

You can preview the newest incarnation of FireFox from GetFireFox.com. Firefox 3 has some great features including the AWESOME BAR. The address bar KNOWS where you want to go. It knows…..

I’ve also been working with other CMS, including Drupal. Personally, I think Joomla is easier to set up and much more intuitive than Drupal when it comes to getting started, but I can see why people like Drupal. Still, I’m really a Joomla girl at heart. It’s like imprinted in my brain. I have to sign up for that mysql/PHP class but I shudder to think about the gas it will take to go to Riverside. Really, it isn’t that far and it’s only once a week, so I should totally go, but if gas hits $5, i want to weep.

I’ve a couple of projects to do for some of my friends. I was thinking that it might be better to hold off until I have some classes under my belt to really enhance their pages. I’ve gotten away with setting up sites without a lot of core knowledge other than my HTML skills and my ability to figure things out. And while it’s done me plenty good, I’d like to be a little more solid in my background knowledge.

1. a new phone.

2. a camera.

3. a way to cyber-stalk my friends from everywhere.

But…. I’m not so sure I want to get it. I’m kind of leaning towards getting a new laptop….

My mac-mini has been acting weird. When I plug in more than one USB item into the ports, it stops working. I have a Belkin Mac mini 6-port USB 2.0 and FireWire Hub and it is not working either. It’s so strange. I tried to reset everything to no avail. Strangely enough, I can plug in my keyboard & mouse in one usb port and my iPod nano in the other and that works…. the Hub does not.

So I have to make a few decisions…. It would be better to actually save money, so I will probably end up doing that. Stimulating the economy bedamned.

Vegas & Love & Sandwiches

by ardith

Glowing walkway with Beatles My family and I spent a few days in Vegas this weekend to celebrate my little sister’s birthday and for my mother to watch her Mother’s Day gift.

We gave her tickets to see Cirque du Solie’s Love. Since my dad couldn’t get time off for the weekend, I went with her. To be honest, I have a clown-phobia that has been seeded in me since childhood. Luckily, there were no scary clowns in the production. It was beautiful and psychedelic. My mother was extremely happy and enjoyed herself. She, along with dozens of other babyboomers, happily plunked down massive amounts for t-shirts, cd’s, DVD’s, and even rugs that were Beatles branded.

Original 1763 - Yummmmya>We also ventured to Planet Hollywood to partake of THE BEST SANDWICHES EVER (as declared by my brother). The Earl of Sandwich Restaurant features sandwiches on bread baked WHEN YOU ORDER. Plus, the owner is the 11th Earl of Sandwich. The 4th Earl actually invented the Sandwich since he couldn’t be bothered to leave the card table to eat.
