Star Wars & Towel Day
I meant to post this yesterday, but as always I got distracted by shiny things.
Yesterday was the 30th Anniversary of the premier of Star Wars, the movie that changed movies forever. As a child born in the year ’77, I have not known the world without the power of the Force or Wookies or the hawtness of Han Solo.
I think it’s amazing that this movie changed so much of how the world views movies. It was so damn fun to watch. I remember the first time I watched Star Wars. The initial crush on Luke. The subsequent crush on Han. My internal questioning of why Princess Leia had such weird hair.
In high school, I begged and begged my mother for the Star Wars LD collection that just had been released. Instead, she opted to buy me Robotech VHS tapes…. Turns out, I ended up working in an Anime/Manga company. Funny, if she bought me the LD’s, would I have ended up working for ILM?
Parallel universe!Ardith surely must know.
May 25 is also world wide Towel Day. A tribute to the witty & clever Douglas Adams. Unfortunately, I had not brought my towel into work, but I did make use of it before I left the house. You can read it on teh wikiz
So May 25, 2007: A historic day for Sci-Fi geeks all around the world.
This weekend, I’m sure that a lot will be toasting (and perhaps toasted). Hm, I wonder if 9 months later there, a new generation of sci-fi babes will be born of this historic weekend’s excess.
If it’s a boy, please name him Luke. Leia for a girl. Twins = bonus!
