Global Warming vs. Global Dimming
Ah. I love Nova. It both scares me and teaches me at the same time.
This week’s episode focuses on global dimming. Apparently, the cloud cover made by pollution has been keeping the world COOLER, even while greenhouse gases have been WARMING the earth. Turns out, as we are lessening the amount of visible pollution, the amount of greenhouse gases keeps rising.
It’s frightening, but apparently once the cloud cover decreses, the climate will get hotter.
It’s horrible. We need to reduce the carbon dioxide in the air or the temperatures in the world will skyrocket. Even 3 degrees around the world will melt ice sheets in Greenland.
What can be done? Stop using carbon dioxide producing gases. Wouldn’t it be even better if people could carbon dioxide in the air and MAKE something with it? Well, TREES use the carbon dioxide, people! We need more trees, plants, and all of that.
*sigh* I don’t want the world to go crapola on us, on our kids. That would be the suck.
